Hypotonic drinks are specially formulated sports drinks whose osmolality is lower than that of the blood. This means that they contain fewer dissolved particles per litre than blood. Such drinks are extremely helpful in sports as they can be absorbed more quickly by the body than isotonic or hypertonic drinks. This leads to a much better rehydration and energy supply during intense physical activity.
