Customise your sports drink

For better performance, fewer energy dips and faster recovery

For ambitious endurance and team athletes who train regularly and intensively (five hours per week or more), a standard sports drink is often not the best choice. The reason: The energy content does not match the training goal, or the loss of sodium in sweat is significantly higher than the amount provided by a conventional drink. Especially during intense and sweaty workouts in summer, choosing a suboptimal drink can lead to a deficit with noticeable consequences such as a drop in performance, cramps, heat intolerance or delayed recovery. The solution: a sports drink that is perfectly tailored to your individual energy and electrolyte requirements during training, taking into account your sweat profile.

Determine your sweat profile with SWEAT TEST

The amount of electrolytes lost through sweating varies from person to person. Sodium loss in sweat can range from 200 mg to 2500 mg per litre. It is important to know that sodium is the dominant electrolyte in sweat, both in terms of concentration and physiological significance. 1 g of table salt consists of 0.4 g of sodium + 0.6 g of chloride, which means that 1 g of sodium corresponds to around 2.5 g of salt. Although the sodium content in sweat varies from person to person, it remains relatively constant for each individual. To find out how much sodium you lose in sweat, all you need to do is take a simple SWEAT TEST – a self-test that can be carried out easily and conveniently during training.

Customise your sports drinks

Once you know your individual electrolyte loss in sweat, you may find that a conventional sports drink is not the best solution for your training load and goals, but should be supplemented with SALT CAPS or ELECTROLYTES TABS or even sodium-containing LIQUID ENERGY gels or bars to prevent performance drops and cramps.

Match the energy content of your sports drink to your training

Depending on the type and goal of your training, your body needs different amounts of energy in the form of carbohydrates. It is usually easiest to get these from a drink. That is why SPONSER offers a wide range of sports drinks:

Low calorie / low energy content

Ideal for metabolic training or basic endurance units:

• ELECTROLYTES – refreshing, low-calorie electrolyte drink
• SALT CAPS – together with water for a targeted supply of electrolytes, especially sodium
• LOW CARB BURNER – low-calorie sports drink with functional ingredients
• CARNITIN 1000 Mineral Drink – low-calorie sports drink with L-carnitine and minerals for fat metabolism and muscle function

Medium to high energy content

Ideal for interval training or longer endurance activities, as well as recovery after exercise:

• ISOTONIC – classic isotonic sports drink in numerous flavours

The powder quantity for the preparation of the following products can be individually adjusted, allowing the energy content to be varied as required:

• COMPETITION – acid-free all-round sports drink for all energy levels; can also be prepared in very high concentrations thanks to its very mild flavouring and low sweetness
• LONG ENERGY – carbohydrates with additional protein (hydrolysed)
• ULTRA COMPETITION – neutral taste and highly tolerable, lowest osmolarity at highest concentration

For competitions lasting approx. 2 hours or longer, where maximum energy intake is crucial:

• CARBO FUEL – for maximum energy intake in competitions lasting 2 hours or longer

Practical drinking tips

The longer and more intensively you exercise and sweat, the more important it is to replace sodium and fluids in a targeted manner. This is because the body builds up an increasing deficit over time, which can have a negative effect on performance and recovery. For durations of more than 90 minutes, your drink should be tailored to the sodium concentration measured in your sweat. SALT CAPS can be used to enrich water or sports drinks with additional sodium and electrolytes. Furthermore, the rule is: drink when you feel thirsty and consume between 0.5 and max. 1.2 litres of fluid per hour, depending on conditions and individual sweat rate.
